in between shoots, I’ve worked as a messenger for progressive candidates. Not once have i met anyone who quips like a sorkin character.


 

Trish Gunby – u.s. congress, MO-02

After flipping MO HD-99, my mom and I figured we'd take a swing at Missouri's Second Congressional District. Unfortunately, a brutal gerrymander had other ideas, though we outperformed projections by two points in an ever-reddening state.

In this role, I did everything from knocking doors to coordinating video shoots to developing the campaign's ideological platform. The highs came from watching my mom grow into a bonafide congresswoman. The lows came when, on numerous occasions, I had to find the words to address the senseless murder of school children. Every single day was different and tough and meaningful. A dream job.


Trish Gunby – state house, MO-99

The start of an incredible, unexpected journey; running my mom in a district won by Donald Trump—previously represented by an executive director of the Missouri GOP—and winning. By pairing a robust field program (marshaled by the incomparable Rosetta Okohson) with an unabashedly progressive message, we flipped this R+11 state house district blue in an unheard of 18-point electoral swing.

Dilara Sayeed – state house, IL-5

It’s true what they say, no city politicks quite like Chicago. For one, Democratic primaries act as general elections due to the overwhelmingly blue hue of the electorate, and this primary was a doozy. There were four candidates, including the party’s choice and a previous holder of the seat. Dr. Sayeed came in second, an admirable result up against $1,000,000+ party dollars and a heavily gerrymandered map that stretched the campaign’s resources.
